The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, implement, and maintain spiritual services to meet the patient, family and caregiver needs both during the patient's illness and for 12 months following the death and to function as a source for spiritual, grief and bereavement issues for the community and hospice service areas.
Educational and Qualifications
- Possess, as a minimum, an appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry. A bachelor's degree in theology, social work, psychology, or related field is preferable.
- Demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible, and ecumenical.
- Demonstrated experience in working with patients / families dealing with life-threatening illness and death.
Experience
Shall have, as a minimum, three (3) years of spiritual counseling or ministerial work.Experience with issues of grief, death / dying or previous hospice experience preferred.Spiritual Counseling Functions
Provide direct spiritual support and / or counsel to patients / families in keeping with patients' / families' beliefs.Work with staff, clergy, and community groups to enhance their sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients / families experiencing terminal illness and loss.Participate in patient conference by exploring and assessing the potential spiritual needs of patients / families and reporting on servicers as indicated.Provide bereavement follow-up services as defined by HOM procedures.Maintain proper records of visits to patients / families.Make contact with clergy or appropriate representatives or patients / families as indicated.Perform occasional liturgical assignments such as the Love Lite Tree Service and other services as deemed necessary.Provides consultation to interdisciplinary team members about spiritual counseling.Develops and recommends spiritual programs and services as needed.Maintains confidentiality of all records and information.Possesses problem solving skills, is self-directed and capable of working with little supervision.Demonstrates professionalism and dependability.Adheres to Hospice Satilla code of ethics and mission statement.Conduct or make arrangements for funeral or memorial services when indicated.Develop and maintain a resource group of clergies to who specific aspects of spiritual care may be delegated.Provide educational programs for community clergy, religious and lay representatives as resources allow.We are an equal opportunity employer.
