SUMMARY:
The Nursing Supervisor will assume responsibility for the leadership of the overall house activities relating to nursing care and its daily operations. They are responsible for ensuring the quality of nursing care to varied population (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), supporting the policies and procedures of the organization, providing guidance and assistance to all clinical and non-clinical staff in an acute care setting, promoting and coordinating team work with physicians and associates, responding to emergency situations, interfacing effectively with other departments and administration, and coordinating hospital/department throughput, staffing, and resources. Nursing Supervisor receives supervision from the Director of Nursing, Director of Patient Care, Nurse Managers, Directors, and/or Chief Nursing Officer. They provide service recovery to customers and associates and act in lieu of administration in their absence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Demonstrates dependability by completing commitments within requested time frames.
* Facilitates or assists with patient transfers as needed with appropriate documentation.
* Seeks information and increases knowledge of Joint Commission standards and observes environment for compliance with appropriate follow-up.
* Assumes administrative role in fire, disaster and any emergency situation until Assistant Vice President or designated person arrives.
* Performs management and administrative responsibilities delegated from nursing administration.
* Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times according to the established hospital procedures to ensure that the dignity and respect of the patient is maintained.
* Uses reasonable diligence to detect noncompliance with applicable polices and legal requirements within his/her department.
* Informs members of his/her department that strict compliance with the Compliances polices and requirements, including HIPAA Privacy and Security Initiatives are a condition of employment.
* Evaluates patient care using pre-established standards by making frequent nursing rounds to access unit activities and provide guidance and assistance when necessary.
* Responds to all Code Blues and assumes role as defined per policy.
* Evaluates staff performance with follow up as needed.
* Provides feedback to Nurse Managers/AVP relevant to recognized learning needs of individual staff members who need remedial education.
* Gives and receives patient care and administrative reports on assigned shift.
* Provides leadership and supervision as the Nursing Supervisor to ensure quality services are provided by a competent staff and that respect for employees is maintained.
* Provides superior customer service when relating to customers and associates.
* Supports guest relation program by functioning as a role model by maintaining effective working relationships with all members of the hospital through the cooperation and mutual respect displayed while interfacing on an interdepartmental and multidisciplinary basis.
* Interacts with patients, families, visitors, employees, and physicians in a manner that is respectful of the person’s dignity and individuality as evidenced by observation.
* Demonstrates ability to use all channels of communication to address inter and intradepartmental concerns, solve, problems, and address conflicts.
* Assesses needs and makes necessary adjustments to staffing to provide adequate coverage for the next shift to meet patient care needs.
* Ensures staffing decisions are within defined parameters and variances are documented.
* Ensures agency staffing, overtime utilizations, and premier pay shifts are considered and managed appropriately.
* Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
* Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position.
* Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
* Attends all mandatory education programs.
* Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
* Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
* Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department.
* Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
* Manages resources effectively.
* Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel.
* Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
* Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc. (“TRHS”) policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Understands and adheres to: TRHS’ compliance standards as they appear in TRHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information.

* Associate's Degree in Nursing

* REGISTERED NURSE
OTHER INFORMATION:
Three (3) years' work experience, including minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
