Position Summary:
The Vice President of Strategy, Planning & Business Development is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving strategic growth, operational planning, and business development initiatives across the organization’s Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). This leader will identify opportunities for expansion, enhance care delivery models, and develop strategic partnerships to strengthen the organization’s market position in the evolving post-acute care landscape. Responsible/oversees organizational marketing, communications, external affairs, philanthropy and planning.
The Vice President of Strategy, Planning & Business Development is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for driving strategic growth, operational planning, and business development initiatives across the organization’s Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH). This leader will identify opportunities for expansion, enhance care delivery models, and develop strategic partnerships to strengthen the organization’s market position in the evolving post-acute care landscape. Responsible/oversees organizational marketing, communications, external affairs, philanthropy and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Growth:
- Develop and lead the execution of a comprehensive strategic plan to expand the organization’s LTAC footprint, optimize service lines, and enhance financial sustainability.
- Conduct market intelligence, competitive analysis, and feasibility studies to inform decision-making and identify growth opportunities in new and existing markets.
- Lead certificate of need (CON) applications, regulatory approvals, and licensure for LTACH expansions, acquisitions, and de novo developments.
- Drive value-based care initiatives and partnerships with acute care hospitals, payers, and post-acute care networks to improve outcomes and reimbursement models.
Business Development & Partnerships:
- Develops organizational planning process for service lines
- Identifies and evaluates joint ventures, and strategic partnerships to expand services and enhance regional presence.
- Develop and maintain relationships with health systems, physician groups, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), home health providers, and managed care organizations to create referral networks and integrated care pathways.
- Evaluates in conjunction with the CFO reimbursement models to enhance revenue and patient access tied to service line development.
Financial & Operational Strategy:
- Collaborate with finance and operational leaders to develop business cases for capital investments, service line expansion, and facility growth initiatives.
- Support payer contracting strategies by analyzing market reimbursement trends and engaging with commercial and government payers. (CFO leads)
- Utilize data analytics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress on strategic initiatives and ensure operational alignment with growth objectives.
Leadership & Organizational Development:
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, executive team, and board of directors on long-term growth opportunities and industry trends.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and data-driven decision-making within the strategy and business development teams.
- Lead cross-functional teams to execute strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with clinical, operational, and financial priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Robust project management skills and/or PMP required
- 10 years of experience in healthcare strategy, business development, or consulting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within an LTAC, post-acute, or hospital system.
- Deep understanding of the LTACH market, reimbursement models (Medicare LTCH PPS, DRG-based payments), regulatory environment, and post-acute care continuum.
- Proven track record in expanding service lines, developing access channels and establishing referral networks.
- Strong business acumen with experience in service line optimization.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with key stakeholders, including hospital executives, physicians, and payers.
- Dynamic and influential leadership presence and ability to build and lead teams.
- Influence the strategic direction of a leading LTACH organization in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
- Ability to work in a mission-driven environment dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with complex medical needs.
