Summary

Provides diagnostic ultrasound scans of patients to the radiologists utilizing ultrasound equipment in accordance with the physician's orders and policies and procedures. Surveys and assesses the anatomy and pathophysiology in the use of ultrasound in the adult and pediatric patient. Maintains competency in abdominal and OB/GYN sonography. Other registries may include vascular, pediatric, neurosonology or breast imaging. Participate in advancement of sonography in direct relationship with radiologists.

Qualifications

Education

Associates degree in allied health, applied science or completion of a certificate program is required.

Bachelor’s degree in allied health or applied sciences is preferred.

High school diploma/GED AND 5 years working as a sonographer may be considered in lieu of associates degree.

 

Experience

2 years of sonography/ultrasound experience is required.

7 years of sonography/ultrasound experience is required if meeting the education equivalency.

 

Certifications, Licenses and Registrations

Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) is required.

Successful completion of at least 3 specialty registry exams is required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
