About the Role: The Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality EVOC training to emergency personnel, ensuring they possess the knowledge and skills necessary to operate emergency vehicles safely and effectively. This role encompasses classroom instruction, practical driving exercises, and ongoing evaluation of student performance. The instructor plays a critical role in promoting a culture of safety and professionalism within the company.
Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) Instructor
LOCATION: Charlottesville, Chesapeake, Newport News, Richmond, & Roanoke, VA
SHIFTS: PRN. May require work on evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
Prerequisites:
· Hold a current, unrestricted certification from a VA OEMS approved institution (e.g., VAVRS, VDFP, USDOT, etc.) as an EVOC Instructor, at a minimum level of Class 2.
· Have a valid, unexpired driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
· Demonstrate a strong understanding of the principles of emergency vehicle operations, including vehicle dynamics.
· Demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable Codes of the Commonwealth of Virginia as they pertain to emergency vehicle operations.
· Have at least two (2) years of verifiable experience as a cleared emergency vehicle operator, with a record of safe operations.
· Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
· Be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the English language.
· Not have been convicted or found guilty of any crime, offense, or regulatory violation, or participated in other prohibited conduct identified in state EMS regulations as found in 12VAC5-31-910.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time while conducting training sessions.
· Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to inspect vehicles and demonstrate proper emergency vehicle maneuvers.
· Ability to lift and carry equipment, training materials, and instructional aids weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Adequate vision and hearing to safely operate emergency vehicles and evaluate student driving performance.
· Ability to withstand exposure to varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, wind, and precipitation when conducting outdoor training.
· Ability to respond quickly and effectively to unexpected situations, ensuring student and public safety.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Program Delivery
· Plans, develops, and delivers EVOC certification courses.
· Prepares and delivers course instruction at H2H offices or off-site locations including classroom presentations, demonstrations, and practical driving exercises.
· Supervises and mentors course participants to promote engagement and success.
· Ensures the safety of all participants during training exercises and enforces established safety procedures.
Curriculum Development & Evaluation
· Designs and implements curricula aligned with certifying body’s (e.g., VAVRS, VDFP, USDOT, etc.) program standards.
· Maintains lesson plans, presentations, and practical exercises that reinforce vehicle dynamics and safe operation of emergency vehicles.
· Assesses student performance and provides constructive feedback to ensure readiness for certification.
· Maintains current knowledge of advancement in emergency vehicle operations, applicable regulations, and training methodologies.
· Attends required instructor updates as needed to maintain certification.

Candidates who refuse to be fingerprinted will be denied employment with H2H Emergency Services. Individuals who do not possess the stated requirements will not be considered!
