Spend Your Summer in Cape Cod or Martha’s Vineyard as a Hostel Assistant!

For summer 2025, we’re looking for Seasonal Hostel Assistants to help run our Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard hostels! If you love travel, community, and spending summer in a stunning coastal destination, this is your chance. Our three hostel locations include :

HI Hyannis
HI Truro
HI Martha’s Vineyard

This is a hands-on role where you’ll help create unforgettable experiences for travelers while being part of a dynamic, international environment.

Position Details

Hourly Pay : $15.50-16.50 per hour DOE, includes on-site housing

Availability : Must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays

Full-Season Commitment Required : Generally, May – Late September. Applicants must be available to work the FULL SEASON to be considered

Responsibilities

Guest Services : Welcome and register guests, provide hostel orientation, and assist with group check-ins. Respond to guest inquiries, issues, and concerns in a friendly and professional manner.

Reservations & Administration : Process individual and group reservations via phone, email, and online systems. Promote HI USA memberships and share information about the hostel and local area.

Housekeeping & Building Upkeep : This is a hands-on cleaning role that goes beyond just the front desk. Take the lead in ensuring the hostel remains clean, organized, and well-maintained. Responsibilities include housekeeping tasks such as cleaning rooms, bathrooms, and common areas, handling laundry, and managing room turnovers.

Safety & Security : Follow hostel procedures to maintain a safe and secure environment for guests, staff, and property.

Promote HI USA’s Mission : Support HI USA’s mission to foster global understanding through hostelling.

Other Duties as Assigned : Support hostel operations as needed to ensure smooth operations and guest satisfaction.

Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Customer service experience preferred.

Experience handling cash and recording sales transactions.

Experience cleaning, including housekeeping and laundry in a hospitality or residential setting.

Comfortable with lifting, stretching, and physical tasks related to housekeeping, furniture movement, and deliveries.

Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills; ability to handle guest concerns professionally.

Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Bonus Points If You Have :

Travel experience, especially in hostels!

CPR certification

Familiarity with Cape Cod

Experience working in hospitality

Ability to speak a second language
