STAFF ACCOUNTANT

DEPARTMENT : Finance

SUPERVISOR : Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

STATUS : Non-Exempt

GENERAL :

SUMMARY :

The Staff Accountant assists the CFO with daily, monthly, and annual accounting functions, and provides support to the Finance Department in other areas as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Comply with policies and procedures pertaining to AP and Payroll, as well as with annual audit recommendations
  • Prepare bi-weekly productivity reports
  • Assist AP / Payroll Coordinator with all aspects of AP / PR functions, including, but not limited to the following :

Process Accounts Payable. Reconcile vendor statements, resolve any discrepancies with the vendors, keep information updated with vendors for prompt invoicing and payments

  • Process payroll. Reconcile and process files for payroll deductions, including but not limited to retirement contributions, AR deductions, garnishments, H.S.A contributions, gym and pool memberships
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual reporting
  • Assist with monthly financial close by preparing journal entries and supporting schedules
  • Facilitate and complete other month-end close procedures
  • Analyze revenues and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis
  • Maintain monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare monthly bank account reconciliations
  • Prepare documentation for external auditors
  • Prepare schedules for annual tax return
  • Assist with preparation of annual budget
  • Assist with preparation of cost report information
  • Other projects as assigned

    EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
  • Prior experience in accounting preferred
  • Experience in healthcare preferred
  • LANGUAGE SKILLS :

    Ability to read, analyze, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and / or boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

    REASONING ABILITY :

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :

  • Strong understanding of accounting theory
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Able to read and understand technical forms and financial reports
  • Age Specific :

    This position does not require hands-on delivery of care, however, incumbent must demonstrate understanding of how a patient’s chronological and developmental age influences his / her need for adaptations related to his / her abilities.
