Job Title: Director of Instrumental Activities
Responsibilities:
Oversee the Instrumental Music Division
Lead and conduct the Houghton Wind Ensemble in multiple concerts each semester
Lead and conduct the Houghton Symphony Orchestra in multiple concerts each semester
Teach graduate instrumental conducting lessons and courses
Teach one of the undergraduate conducting courses
Teach courses in instrumental music education commensurate with successful candidate’s expertise and
experience.
Qualifications:
Doctorate in either conducting or music education with a cognate in conducting
Must have a minimum of 5 years successful secondary instrumental music teaching and be well versed
in preparing future instrumental music educators
Outstanding teacher and conductor
Strong organizational skills
Ability and desire to collaborate with colleagues
Strong communication skills
Also required is ability to help students form respectful attitudes and interactions with people
who differ in abilities, attitudes, and cultural experience, with sensitivity to factors that affect our
own assessment of others.
Other important qualities for this position include a commitment to excellence and creativity in
undergraduate teaching, a mature Christian faith, and an ability to integrate Christian faith into
their teaching.
Salary Range:
$43,000-53,000 annually
