What are the responsibilities and job description for the Houndskeeper position at Hound Haus?

Who we are:

Hound Haus is the first of its kind in Pittsburgh: an all-day café, bar, and fully staffed dog park. With over 20,000 sq ft. of dog play space, an intimate café and modern bar, Hound Haus offers a one-of-a-kind environment for community-minded people and their dogs to share connections and have some fun in a welcoming, playful setting.

Who you are:

Must love dogs!

A positive, hardworking, dog enthusiast, who is happiest in an active outdoor environment.

You have a natural way with dogs and you’re fascinated with dog behavior. Making sure our dog customers and their people have a safe and memorable experience is your first priority.

Primarily, this position manages the dog play areas and is responsible for keeping the peace, scooping the poop, enforcing dog park rules, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. You’ll be on your feet and on the move actively engaged with our dogs and their people outdoors in our park during your shift.

During shifts, Houndskeepers will be asked to serve as the Hound Host. The Hound Host is organized, positive, hardworking, and service-focused. You are excited to be the first person customers see and offer a welcoming “hello.” The Hound Host will be responsible for greeting all guests (humans and dogs). You will manage checking in guests, the purchase of passes, memberships and other retail items.

Whether in the play area or at the front desk, this position requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills and customer service. You will often be the first point of contact for our customers explaining dog behavior, why we do things a certain way, and discussing what happens if an incident occurs.

If an incident does occur, you’ll be responsible for providing accurate information regarding your assessment of the incident and communicating with our guests in a way that respects their best interests and our standard for operations. From time to time you’ll also be asked to answer questions about our café and bar.

You’ll be trained in dog behavior and handling techniques that ensure your safety and the safety of the people and dogs in our park.

As part of our team, you’ll wear many hats and have the opportunity to help grow and develop the future of our company.

We’re open to full or part-time applicants. Flexible hours considered.

What you’ll do, but not limited to:

- Register and check-in dogs using Gingr software

- Clean and disinfect all dog areas to maintain a safe and healthy environment.

- Offer excellent customer service to dogs and their humans

- Maintain safe play among dogs, which includes supervising the park, breaking up any aggressive behavior before it escalates, and general care according to established policies.

- Is excited about working outdoors and staying active

- Can work well independently and collaborate with teams

- Brings forward challenges with curiosity and solutions.

- Is on time and ready to start work at the start of your shift

- Wants to work for a company that maintains a loving, fun, kind, accepting and adventurous environment through positive attitudes, behavior, and support of our guests, colleagues, and managers
