SUMMARY: Providing safe and quality food is the job of all House of Flavors employees. The Maintenance Electrician, an at-will employee working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and Supervisors, is responsible to be directly involved in all maintenance, installations and other projects that require installation and service involving electricity. The electrician repairs and maintains electrical machinery and mechanical control equipment in the plant such as pumps, conveyor system controls, fillers, can formers, over wrappers, and freezing equipment. The Electrician routinely performs assigned preventative maintenance and project maintenance work through the Maintenance Order Request System. All Good Manufacturing Practices and general safety practices are observed.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.) Troubleshoots malfunctioning of Allen Bradley and Allen Bradley touch screen controls, makes appropriate adjustments or repairs to keep employees and the electrical systems safe and the plant operating effectively. Involved with electrical system design and may also do PLC programming.

2.) Maintains any and all plant equipment and facilities, particularly the electrical side through the Preventative Maintenance Program or other electrical maintenance scheduling.

3.) Facilitates the on-time and quality completion of Capex and facilities projects by coordinating with other Maintenance Techs and outside contractors. Gets quotes from contractors for electrical jobs and provides part information to the Maintenance Buyer. Supports the Department’s parts inventory organization system.

4.) The electrician will at times oversee other employees doing basic electrical installation and repair, assuring that the work is done safely and correctly. Teaches other maintenance personnel the basics of the plant’s electrical systems.

5.) Achieves internal customer satisfaction by immediately responding to calls for maintenance assistance, in particular calls related to electrical problems. Contributes to other maintenance duties in the plant, including but not limited to, general repairs, clean up and sanitation, assisting with production work and inventory.

6.) Supports the department continuous improvement Operational Excellence journey. Completes all systems and process required documentation supporting the effective functioning of the department.

7.) Maintains all equipment and tools that enter the plant in a sanitary fashion, observing all company food safety practices and standards for maintenance.

8.) Demonstrates skill and familiarity with a variety of other hand tools in order to accomplish all the tasks assigned by the Maintenance Department Manager.

9.) Completes all other duties as assigned, including working with the Maintenance Manager and other managers to enhance the overall profitability of the operation.

These are not the only duties and responsibilities that the Maintenance Electrician may be asked to perform, but it is a fair representation of the general duties that are required on a day-to-day basis.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility to the appropriate company standard. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent is required along with a significant track record of career success in the industrial electrical field, achieved through education and work experience or a combination of the two. Documented training and experience in PLC programming principals may be required. A proven track record in working in a collaborative team environment is essential. A Michigan Journeyman Electrical License is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write in order to follow instructions; create and respond to documents; understand and follow company policies; and effectively present information verbally to others.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and ability to perform mathematical calculations and understand numerical specifications including temperature measurements, time calculations and decimal weights.

REASONING ABILITY: Is mechanically inclined and can apply common sense understanding in carrying out written or verbal instructions in the set-up, maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery including a thorough understanding of the electrical processes of machines. Exercises thoughtful methodical problem solving and troubleshooting.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, including walking, for periods of time up to 12 hours. The constant use of hands and arms during this time including lifting, pulling, reaching, and fine manipulation is required. The use of hand tools requiring a substantial grip and the ability to climb a ladder is required. The employee is required to stoop or crouch. The employee is required to talk and hear.

The employee must be able to lift 10 to 20 pounds continuously, 30 pounds frequently, and 50 to 75 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee regularly works with moving mechanical components and the electrical components of machinery and is regularly exposed to high levels of noise. Safety equipment may be required. The employee works in a wet environment where floors are slippery and splashing water, ice cream ingredients and sanitation solution are frequently present. The employee occasionally works in high places or places of limited space.

COMMENTS AND/OR ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee is required to wear an approved uniform which is provided by the company. Employee is required to wear safety toed boots that can withstand water, food products, and chemical contact. Employee is required to wear a hairnet and, if facial hair is present, a beard net. Occasionally the use of latex gloves is required.
