SUBJECT: JOB DESCRIPTION: PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANT
Reports to: Director
Description of Position:
Provides direct personal care and supervision to the residents at the community. Promotes resident well being and satisfaction through support with activities of daily living.
Responsibilities of the Personal Care Attendant
- Assist with activities of daily living, including medication assistance, following community protocol, licensing regulation and guidelines for both resident and employee safety.
- Follow safety guidelines in the community, including proper lifting technique and universal precautions when providing care to the residents.
- Follow the schedule of duties, as well as the individual plan of care for each resident.
- Function as a team, assisting coworkers as the need arises.
- Monitor resident activity, food intake, functional status, psychosocial status, taking action as required to promote resident well being.
- Report status change immediately to the Director.
- Act immediately on any resident crisis, following protocol and basic first aid training.
- Document resident status change, including but not limited to, physical change, reaction to medication, psychosocial status change.
- In the event all assigned duties cannot be completed, ask for assistance and report to the Director.
- Any other assignments made by the Director. Promote open communication between health care professionals, families, residents and staff.
- Adhere to policies and procedures including dress code, conduct, scheduling, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The Personal Care Attendant must:
- Exhibit maturity, a sympathetic attitude toward the resident, ability to provide care to residents, and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job; and
- Have the ability to read, write, and carry out directions promptly and accurately; and
- When employed by more than one agency, he or she must inform all employers and coordinate duties to assure quality service provision.
- Successfully complete on site supervised training for at least 5 working days prior to providing resident care.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
- Have at least (6) months experience providing personal care services (preferred)
- Have Documented CPR and First Aid Training within first thirty (90) days of employment (preferred)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (preferred)
- The Personal Care Attendant may not be employed with another licensed facility within the same shift.
