Job Title: Community Services Assistant

House of Hope:
House of Hope (HOH) has served homeless families for 36 years. House of Hope operates three emergency shelters, comprehensive shelter services for parents and children, a Housing Resource Center, a learn-to-work initiative that includes two internship programs, the Hope Chest (Children’s Clothing Resale Shop & Job-Training Program) and a culinary kitchen internship. Our sister organization, House of Hope Housing, Inc. provides permanent, affordable housing and support services for formerly homeless families with an enduring commitment to build family economic self-sufficiency, promote neighborhood stability, and provide educational opportunities to improve the lives of our poorest children.

Our success is due to a shared commitment to provide high-quality services with a spirit of optimism and expectation that our families will succeed in ending their homelessness. The Community Services Assistant must embrace this vision and be mission-focused as well as stewardship-driven.

Description: The CSA is the liaison between our volunteers and staff. The CSA will be responsible for training and supporting all volunteers. This position is also part of the operations staff, who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the shelter. The overriding goal of the shelter is to move families out of the shelter and this position supports that culture in all ways possible.

Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited too:

  • Recruiting, interviewing, training, supporting, recognizing and retaining volunteers for all shelters, including kitchen, playroom, Hope Chest and group volunteers
  • Supervising children ages newborn to teenagers while parents are in groups
  • Maintaining all paper work on volunteers
  • Be on hand to greet and supervise volunteers
  • Planning and carrying out children’s activities for all shelters
  • Follow up on all incoming phone calls and emails for volunteer opportunities
  • Attend community events to represent the shelters and recruit new volunteers
  • Maintain a volunteer calendar
  • Maintain indoor and outdoor play areas (cleaning/stock/décor)
  • Provide educational assistance to children
  • Coordinate birthday parties for the children at all three shelters
  • Help organize field trips
  • Assist in holiday/ seasonal programs for children and parents
  • Helping to account for and distribute donations
  • Participate in all required trainings and meetings
  • Be trained and aware of all procedures and policies related to our Hope Chest store

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with young children is a must
  • Must be flexible and adaptable, have a pleasant and friendly attitude
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Hours:

  • Tuesday through Friday 12pm-8pm
  • Saturday 9-5pm
  • Sundays – will be required if a group is scheduled

The above hours are what the position requires, however for the first few months the hours will be:

  • Tuesday –Thursday 10am-6pm
  • Friday 12-8pm
  • Saturday 9-5pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
