What are the responsibilities and job description for the Breeder Serviceperson position at House of Raeford Farms Inc?
Responsibilities: Act as liaison between House of Raeford and contract breeder growers. Responsible for management of breeder farms on a route that has been assigned, to ensure the efficient and profitable production of high-quality hatching eggs. Duties include, but are not limited to - overseeing flock health, maintaining optimum environmental conditions, communicating with farm personnel, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare, biosecurity regulations and safety.
- Flock Management - Monitor health, growth, and performance of broiler breeders on contract grower farms; oversee feeding, watering, and ventilation systems to ensure proper flock welfare; communicate health issues with contract growers, department manager and company veterinarians, when necessary. Work with contract growers to help maximize egg production, fertility, and hatchability. Must help oversee field vaccinations, medicating of birds, and the movement of pullets. Will be responsible for weighing birds and/or eggs and maintaining weight and fleshing goals of birds.
- Environmental and Facility Management - Monitor temperature, humidity, ventilation and lighting systems to ensure optimal growing conditions; ensure houses, equipment and all systems are properly maintained and functional and troubleshoot and repair minor technical issues with feeding and watering systems.
- Communication- Communicate any farm or health issues with contract growers, farm personnel and company management personnel.
- Farm Management, Biosecurity and Compliance - Train growers, farm managers and/or farm labor on company procedures, safety protocols, Animal Welfare Program and Biosecurity Guidelines.
- Inventory and Record keeping - manage inventories for feed, water and supplies to prevent any shortages; maintain detailed records of flock performance, mortality rates, feed consumption and medication use (if needed).
- Health and Safety - Identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective measures.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. A degree in Animal/Poultry Science, Agriculture or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Must have a good driving record
- Basic mechanical skills to troubleshoot equipment issues is a plus
- Good computer skills
- Good Written and oral communication skills
- Ability and willingness to work within the department team to trouble shoot and correct potential problems.
- Must be willing to work occasional weekends.
- Must be willing to get your hands dirty and work in “dirty” environments.
