What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Assurance Technician position at House of Raeford Farms Inc?
Oversees adherence to quality standards on the production floor to ensure products meet specifications and comply with food safety regulations. Assists in maintaining documentation related to HACCP, Food Safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Requirements:Essential Job Functions/Duties:
- Monitors extrusion processing procedures.
- Monitors MSC processing procedures.
- Monitors franks to ensure size requirements meet specs.
- Monitors the cooking and chilling requirements for the franks and processing checks on the cooker and chiller.
- Monitor the frying process to ensure specifications are being followed, check for product doneness, compare to color standards, and check internal temperatures.
- Monitor freezing processes to ensure product is adequately frozen.
- Monitor packing to ensure correct labeling, date coding, and correct packaging is being used. Also, scan labels (as needed).
- Ensure metal detectors are functioning properly.
- Organoleptic tests of finished goods to ensure acceptance to standards; taste, color, etc.
- Pull product samples to be retained and sensory evaluation samples.
- Placing questionable product on hold and stopping production line to correct or prevent product quality and food safety issues.
- Monitor production processing methods during production to improve product quality & consistency.
- Monitor and verify production paperwork and perform QA verification checks.
- Monitor recording of lot numbers to ensure no expired ingredients are being used.
- Ensure proper rework documentation is completed.
- Scale checks and calibrations.
- Thermometer, pH meter, and brix calibrations.
- Maintains a safe work environment.
- Conduct business with honesty, integrity and fairness.
- Must comply with our ethic policy, environmental policy and code of conduct.
Secondary Functions/Duties:
- Room and Freezer temperatures taken and documented.
- Monitor and Implement SSOPs.
- Perform swab/sponge tests.
- Bag STP as needed.
- Perform record review on QA paperwork and paperwork that is turned into the department each shift.
- Any assigned tasks as needed or instructed to perform.
- Willing to work during non-production hours and times such as weekends and holidays.
Supervision:
- No supervisory responsibilities. Works under close supervision of the QA Senior Tech, FSQA Supervisor and FSQA Manager.
Qualifications/Experience/License:
- Must successfully complete HACCP, SSOP and procedures training within the first 30 days of accepting position.
Educational Requirements:
- S. Diploma or equivalent experience in production and education combination.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Physically fit to work in all areas of the plant.
- Requires standing, stooping, twisting, bending activities and lifting of 50 or more pounds on an occasional basis.
- Must have good written and oral communication skills.
- Must have good interaction skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate with company standards.
- Attention to detail, particularly with written documentation, and relevance to regulatory and company requirements is necessary.
- Good math skills (ability to add, subtract, and multiply work with percentages, fractions, decimals, greater than, less than and basic formulas).
