The Refrigeration Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration systems and related equipment in a poultry processing plant. This role ensures that the refrigeration systems function efficiently and safely to maintain optimal temperatures for food safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities :
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and other related equipment.
Diagnose malfunctions in refrigeration systems and repair or replace defective parts, such as motors, switches, and electrical wiring.Maintain ammonia based refrigeration systems, ensuring they operate within safe and legal parameters.System Monitoring :Monitor and log the performance of refrigeration systems to ensure proper operation.
Adjust controls to regulate temperature and humidity levels according to the specifications required for poultry processing and storage.Troubleshooting :Respond to emergency breakdowns or alarms, providing timely troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.Documentation :Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent.
Document and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to management.Education : High school diploma or GED. Technical certification in HVAC / R or related field preferred.Experience : 2 years of experience supervising techs in industrial refrigeration, preferably in a food processing environment.Skills :Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles and components.Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.Basic computer skills for record-keeping and documentation.Licenses / Certifications :Ammonia refrigeration certification (preferred).
Working Conditions :
Must be able to work in cold environments, often below freezing temperatures.Ability to work on-call and respond to emergencies as needed, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Physically capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing tasks that require climbing, bending, and reaching.
