Position Summary:
The Community Engagement Lead is member of the Training Institute. The position includes overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Community Engagement Specialists. The primary responsibility will be to develop and maintain relationships with organizations, agencies, and the community by creating effective engagement strategies. This includes but is not limited to being responsive to training requests and to coordinating training agendas that are responsive to the interests of House of Ruth Maryland (HRM) staff and training audiences. The Community Engagement Lead also provides trainings on the dynamics of intimate partner violence (IPV), House of Ruth Maryland services, and other basic concepts related to ending intimate partner violence and healthy relationships. This position is part of the agency’s Community Engagement Team carrying out the agenda for the intimate partner violence education and prevention initiatives. The Community Engagement Lead ensures proper workflow for the team.
Standard Schedule: Standard hours for this position are Monday- Friday, starting between 8:00am-10:00am and finishing between 4:00pm-6:00pm with flexibility up to 30% of the time to attend to critical work activities occurring in the evening or weekend (resource fairs and events, presentations, meeting with participants with schedule conflicts, etc.). This position can be based on-site at HRM’s Community Engagement Center (CEC) and at the Highlandtown location.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to community training requests in a timely and professional manner; participate in community engagement activities that strengthen strategic relationships and increase the awareness of House of Ruth Maryland and its services.
- Supervise Community Engagement Specialists by providing support, coaching, training, and evaluation of performance to ensure program standards are met.
- Assist in the development of community level strategies and the delivery of in-person and virtual trainings and workshops for service providers, community, and other audiences.
- Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with community leaders, organizations and networks that expand community engagement and programmatic efforts.
- Educate community members and other professionals about the dynamics of intimate partner violence and services offered by the agency.
- Monitor community engagement activities, contribute to reports, provide insight into strategy for community engagement for diverse populations, and participate in the development of program evaluation projects.
- Stay up to date on leading research and data regarding intimate partner violence & sexual assault in the context of intimate partner violence.
- Coordinate and attend all meetings, activities and events required for projects.
- Maintain an accurate record keeping system to facilitate the functioning of the Training Institute including records of services provided to the community. This includes the timely entering of information into the agency database.
- Represent House of Ruth Maryland at community events (ex: health fairs, resource fairs).
- Organize or lead special projects or partnerships as assigned.
- Perform administrative tasks of program.
- Participate in Training Institute, Community Engagement Team, external collaborative meetings, and site-specific meetings as applicable.

Pay: $55,000 annually
Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses
- Bachelor’s Degree or a minimum of two years of training experience required.
- One year of paid or volunteer experience providing outreach, training, or victim centered advocacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of how trauma affects vulnerable population through direct service provision with that population.
- Excellent oral and written interpersonal skills with a strong ability to relate to a diverse range of individuals including victims, children, donors, business leaders, human service providers, and donors.
- Practice balancing varying priorities while maintaining a positive outlook and working effectively in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated competence with computer systems including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and an agency-wide database.
- Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and timelines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Able to reliably travel between multiple locations
- Able to work evening and weekend hours, as applicable.
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds.
- Must pass Criminal Background Check.
