Position Summary:
The Residential Support Counselor is responsible for addressing the mental health care needs of shelter residents. This includes providing limited counseling to shelter residents, facilitating support groups and coordinating with other shelter programs and community partners to develop activities that support positive coping and skill building for shelter residents. The Residential Support Counselor also serves as the liaison between our shelter and community based clinical services. The Residential Support Counselor facilitates and supports a team approach among staff to address the trauma, mental health and other clinical issues residential clients may present.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with clinical and other shelter program leadership to develop site-specific goals and objectives.
- Consults with other shelter program staff to address the impact of clients’ mental health/trauma on goal setting and expectation.
- Provides drop in, one-on-one counseling for survivors of intimate partner violence and their children.
- Provides comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessments for victims of intimate partner violence.
- Provides support and psychoeducation to survivor parents regarding trauma and the effects of intimate partner violence on children.
- Facilitates support and coping skill building activities for survivors of intimate partner violence.
- Participates in Clinical Services staff meetings and clinical case review.
- Collaborates with other Clinical staff to support mental health needs of shelter residents.
- Participates in Shelter Case review and collaborative service meetings.
- Consults with other shelter programs to assure service is client-focused, strength based, and trauma informed.
- Adheres to agency and clinical licensing standards for data recording and confidentiality.
- Ensures the collection and integrity of client/service data.
- Collaborates with program leadership in the use of interns and volunteers, trains, supervises, and provides support.
- Manages service linkage agreements, referrals, etc., with community mental health service providers.
- Represent the program and agency with area service providers.
- Represent the Clinical program and clinical needs of residents in shelter policy development and service provision.
- Meets program quality and service targets, including caseload performance standards.
- Meets program standards and objectives.
- Records work effort within program and agency guidelines.

Pay: $60,000 annually
Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses
- LCSW-C, LCPC, LMSW, or LGPC license
- 2 years related experience preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledgeable about therapeutic interventions and de-escalation skills with victims of trauma, their children, and family systems.
- Knowledgeable about the dynamics of intimate partner violence and or trauma.
- Demonstrates competence with computer systems including MS Word, Outlook and agency-wide databases.
- Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and collaboratively with peers and community partners.
- Ability to work two evenings per week.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
