What are the responsibilities and job description for the Craft Coordinator position at HouseMart?
SUMMARY: Responsible to coordinate all in-store craft functions related to craft classes, demonstrations, Keiki Club activities, and craft display areas (i.e. story boards, craft classroom etc). Assists store management in meeting sales goals by creating craft projects that increase sales and profit opportunities. Reports directly to the Store Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Projects a high level of AIE (attitude, intelligence, and enthusiasm) to both external and internal customers.
- Explains and/or demonstrates the use of a product and/or merchandise and/or technique when approached by a customer or when such a demonstration would enhance the customer’s understanding of the product and it’s uses.
- Maintains, and/or promotes, the designated craft display area (i.e. story boards, completes models, craft classroom, craft projects etc.) with current and new trends in projects. Assists with the overall ambiance throughout the store by creating and maintaining fresh displays that accommodate seasonal and promotional activities.
- Assists, plans, and/or coordinate craft fairs and in-store event to active promote BFS, Inc. crafts through demonstrations and classes.
- Takes the lead in coordinating community service projects and makes regular contacts with community organizations, schools, clubs, etc. to increase business development.
- Establishes monthly calendar of events as required and ensures mandatory demonstrations/workshops scheduled by company and minimum requirements are performed. Coordinates signup for craft classes, including maintaining sign up log. Ensures that information is communicated to employees for upcoming classes.
- Continuously improves ways to maximize sales profitability of craft departments.
- Recommends promotional ideas regarding advertising and merchandising to keep craft classes in the forefront.
- Coordinates, recruits, interviews, schedules, supervises and evaluates instructors to give in-store classes on an on-going basis. Ensures instructor’s Teaching Agreement is current and follows proper instructor payment procedures.
- Coordinates and suggests to management the best personnel to conduct demonstrations, display assignments and ensure quality presentations for customers.
- Continuously implements and trains store personnel and instructors with product knowledge and new craft projects and ideas in a timely manner. Cultivates customer’s good will and encourages repeat business.
- Communicates inventory needs of regular/promotional/seasonal merchandise to the Store Manager in a timely manner. Assists in the ordering of merchandise.
- Monitors and maintains craft merchandise for store use in designated storage areas in accordance with store use procedures.
- Distributes store’s instruction sheets for projects, product knowledge information, etc.
- Follows all safety and security policies and/or procedures and completes required reports within 24 hrs.
- Is aware of potential security, safety and/or shoplifting issues and reports any incidents and/or concerns immediately to management.
- Able to report to work as scheduled. Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance. Attends and participates in seminars, training sessions and monthly store meetings as required
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Processes and follows special order procedures for non-stock items.
- Accurately prices and displays merchandise as required.
- Keeps up with current craft trends by reading (i.e. trade magazines, manufacturer’s literature, handouts) and watches training videos to gain new product knowledge
- Assists store management in the annual preparation and taking of the store’s physical inventory.
- Performs general housekeeping duties (i.e. up keeps a professional appearance of the store’s floors, fixtures, restrooms, employee lounge, etc.) Performs general maintenance of the store’s premises (i.e. store entrance, parking lot, receiving, etc.)
- Promptly and accurately performs any other related duties as assigned by store management, including performing related duties of a Cashier, Sales Associate, and/or Receiver.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Equipment/Tolls Used: Occasional use of various store equipment such as various hand tools (i.e. glue guns, scissors, stapler, saws, drills, etc.) and office equipment (i.e. cash register, computer, printers, fax machine, shredder, calculator, telephone, two way radios, headsets etc.)
Work Hours: Available flexible hours as required (Including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.)
Work Environment: Works under regular store conditions with frequent exposure to heat, dust, solvents, chemicals, paint, glues, etc. Ability to work at different locations including non-store sites and travel to neighbor islands as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
- Requires attention to detail, concentration and alertness.
- Basic mathematical skills (i.e. calculation of yardage, square footage, fractions, percentages, pricing, discounts, taxes, returns, charges, making change, taking inventory, ordering, verification of quantities, etc.)
- Ability to work under pressure, demonstrate effective decision-making, and ability to exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time.
- Properly handles confidential information as outlined in the BFS Inc.’s Employee Handbook (i.e. company documents, pay issues, sales figures, sales plans, etc.)
- Demonstrates effective time management skills; able to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks in a timely manner in accordance with store/company’s goals.
- Maintains accuracy, pays attention to detail, and demonstrates customer service standards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Occasional push, pull, and/or lift up to 60 lbs. of materials, including lifting and maneuvering up to 100 lbs. of merchandise using a hand truck.
- Ability to stand for durations up to 8 hours at a time.
- Frequent reaching, twisting, turning, stooping, squatting, crouching, climbing of ladder, grasping and squeezing.
- Manual dexterity to operate cash register, computer, calculator and misc. hand and/or power tools.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Customer service and/or retail experience preferred.
- General knowledge of computer and computer systems.
- Craft, art, visual merchandising, teaching and/or training experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees, management, customers and vendors using both verbal and written skills. Able to understand and follow instructions to complete assignments.
