CLASS SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for performing advanced maintenance, repair, inspection, and replacement of a wide range of equipment and systems.
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
1. Tests and inspects smoke alarm, lighting, and related systems to ensure proper functioning.
2. Repairs fire alarm, building, plumbing, and other systems.
3. Maintains and repairs HVAC equipment.
4. Maintains motors, starters, fuses, and other devices.
5. Repairs mechanical, electric, and other controls.
6. Performs emergency building maintenance and repair tasks.
7. Prepares reports outlining inspections and/or repairs.
8. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school; 3-5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
• Certification from National Institute for Certification in Engineering
• Environmental Protection Agency Certification
KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry):
• HVAC processes and procedures;
• Safety and security procedures;
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
• HVAC repair techniques;
• Related tools, equipment, and materials;
• Techniques of repairing various equipment, controls, and systems;
• Methods of inspecting building systems;
• Methods of preparing reports.

• Repairing HVAC and other equipment, controls, and systems;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibration, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, intense noise, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, restricted movement, and environmental threats.
