Housing Development Alliance, Inc. (HDA) is a well-established nonprofit housing provider dedicated to serving the people of Southeast Kentucky. Our work includes developing affordable homeownership opportunities, providing critical home repairs, creating and managing rental properties, and operating on-the-job training programs for individuals in recovery. In response to the July 2022 floods, HDA is expanding to meet both the existing affordable housing crisis and urgent flood-related housing needs.
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounting Clerk to support our finance and accounting operations. In this role, you will perform essential bookkeeping and accounting tasks, including managing accounts payable/receivable, preparing financial reports, and supporting the broader organization with day-to-day financial needs. Your accuracy, analytical skills, and commitment to maintaining proper financial records will be crucial to HDA’s mission of delivering safe, affordable homes to Appalachia’s families.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accounting and clerical support to the finance department
- Accurately prepare and maintain accounting documents, ledgers, and records
- Process transactions in accounting software, including accounts payable and receivable, disbursements, and expense vouchers
- Perform regular bank deposits, general ledger postings, and reconcile accounts in a timely manner
- Input key financial data daily into the organization’s database
- Research and resolve any accounting or documentation discrepancies
- Prepare and present financial reports and summaries to management
- Adhere to established accounting standards, procedures, and applicable laws
- Keep up to date with job knowledge, best practices, and evolving regulations
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of accounting experience or equivalent demonstrated expertise
- Proficiency in basic bookkeeping and accounting procedures
- Competency in MS Office (especially Excel) and experience with accounting software (ideally Sage)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
- Aptitude for numbers, along with analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Demonstrated respect for and understanding of the economic challenges in rural communities
