Job Summary for Plant Controller :
- Prepare monthly financial statements that are in accordance with GAAP and the Company's accounting policies and procedures
- Provide meaningful financial information and analyses to plant, regional and corporate management to support the decision-making process, plant / regional / corporate initiatives, product pricing / profit improvement initiatives, and other requests from time to time.
- Maintain an effective internal control environment to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley
- Safeguard the Company's assets
- Identify opportunities, risks or liabilities that may arise from ongoing business operations
- Promote and support plant safety
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Plant Controller :
General Accounting :
Provide complete and accurate postings to the general ledger at the locationReview all revenue and expenditures to ensure accurate accounting treatment and to provide a comparison to forecast expectationsPerform the month end close process to ensure timely completion of accurate monthly financial statementsMonthly reconciliation of all significant balance sheet accounts to ensure balances reflect accurate asset and liability valuesEnsure all key controls are operating as designed and documented sufficientlyInform management about unusual or unexpected transactionsOversee all plant accounting operationsMaintain desk procedures for each accounting functionBudgeting, Planning and Forecasting :
Develop the plant budget and forecasts using input from the plant management teamAnalyze variations from historical performance and provide feedbackPrepare Excel, Adaptive Planning and other templates required for planning and forecasting processes. May be called on to create additional planning models on rare occasions.Payroll :
Assist the HR Payroll professional by reviewing payroll processing and calculating accounting accruals in compliance with Company policies and procedures.Create and post the Management Bonus accrual and calculation.Cross train on time reporting and payroll processes to backfill for the HR person in the event of absence.Product Pricing and Costing :
Provide margin analysis to management and assist in the analysis of changes in product volume and mix on compensation programs, throughput and other costsCoordinate cost accounting with Corporate cost accounting teamReconcile physical inventories and provide analysis of inventory gains and losses - quarterlyOversee analysis by corporate cost accounting team. Work with cost team to revise BOMs as necessaryAudit :
Perform periodic reviews of local processes and procedures to ensure compliance with Company policy and good business practicesSupport internal and external audit requirements, including the preparation and submission of the year-end audit packageWork with local management to address and correct any policy or internal control issues identified during the performance of auditsGeneral Manager Business Partnership :
Prepare or review capital expenditure requests and obtain the proper approvalsRegularly walk the shop floor / plant yard and provide feedback to the appropriate functional managers related to inventories, safety concerns and any other observations deemed importantParticipate in continuous improvement activities, supporting the management team in the identification and implementation of cost savings ideasSupervisory Responsibilities :
Manages employees performing accounting functions at the plant (currently 2). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Partners with Sales and Purchasing to ensure effective controls, costs, and revenue recognition.Partners with HR to address employment and benefit issues.Competencies required for Plant Controller :

Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S.) from four-year college or university and 5 to 7 years manufacturing accounting leadership experiencePrior Plant Controller or equivalent experience a plusProficient in Microsoft Office, accounting software (mid to large size ERP experience such as NetSuite, Oracle, SAP, JD Edwards) and payroll systemsSalary and Benefits :
