Our Peer Support position provides an opportunity to work in a mission driven organization where your continuous work efforts are contributing to the well-being of HOSWWA residents. In this position an empathetic person will utilize Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing techniques to help support tenants at HOSWWA properties in achieving their goals.

At Housing Opportunities of SW Washington (HOSWWA) we work closely with local government and community partners throughout Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Lewis, and Pacific counties to address issues of affordable housing and homelessness and to help families break the cycle of poverty. We provide affordable housing and housing assistance to low-income residents within our service area. Peer Support provides services to the agency by helping residents achieve goals such as housing stability, income enhancement, and self-determination.

Your skills and experience will support our mission as you:

  • Provide peer support in areas such as but not limited to, lived experience in housing assistance, employment goals, substance use, mental health, or family dynamics
  • Utilize Harm Reduction and Motivational interviewing techniques with clients.
  • Assist clients to advocate for themselves
  • Empower participants to acknowledge each accomplishment.
  • Assist participants to make informed decisions.
  • Model self-determination with program participants.
  • Participate in case management meetings upon client request.
  • Work with staff to achieve program goals.
  • Utilize systems to track client engagement and activities

Pay and Benefits

  • The full pay range is $22.87-31.66 / hour. Compensation for the position is negotiable, depending on the qualifications and experience of the chosen candidate. Applicants should not expect to start in the highest range of this salary.
  • All HOSWWA employees are members of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) administered by the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Employees may also contribute funds to Deferred Compensation Program (DCP), a 457(b)-tax deferred savings plan run by the DRS.
  • Employees receive paid sick leave accrual at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked, and, following 6 months’ orientation, paid annual leave depending on average hours worked, starting at 24 hours leave.
  • Other benefits include an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Meaningful work that addresses affordable housing and homelessness in our community.

Requirements

  • Preference for persons with lived experience.
  • Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Preference to persons with experience in case management, social services, or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of region’s social service systems and ability to establish a working relationship with local service providers.
  • Ability to keep the participants best interest paramount in all areas of peer support.
  • Must have the ability to advocate equitably for each participant, facilitate interactions with other professionals and coordinate positive opportunities.
  • Must adhere to professional boundaries and ethics.
