GRANT FUNDED POSITION
General Summary
The Juvenile Fire Setters Program is a community interaction initiative intended for children between the ages of 2-17 and their guardians. Its purpose is to eliminate recurrences of fire risk behaviors through education.
Description Of Duties / Essential Functions
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air quality conditions.
Occasional travel is required.
Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, Business Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
Minimum Experience Requirements
One year of administrative experience is required. Professional experience related to the type of work to be performed may substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

The salary range is: Pay Grade 17

Description Of Duties / Essential Functions
- Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data for the Juvenile Fire Setters Program
- Respond to referrals from fire departments, law enforcement, school officials, juvenile justice systems, and others in the City of Houston (including self-referrals)
- Provide risk assessments for future fire-setting behaviors
- Provide education courses, which are cognitively and age-appropriate with the youth and family about legal/fiscal ramifications, and the dangers to self and others.
- Referrals to community agencies to address clinical issues.
- Work with the HFD Public Information Office and other outside agencies to raise community awareness about the JFSP
- Maintaining all records pertaining to the JFSP.
- Performs other duties as requested.
