Overview: The Patient Assistance Program (PAP)-Pharmacy Technician is responsible for enrolling patients in drug manufacturers
Patient Assistance Programs and managing all records and paperwork associated with the process from beginning to end. The position
requires interaction with various medical staff, patients and drug manufacturers. In addition, the PAP-Pharmacy Technician processes
prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist. The PAP-Pharmacy Technician may measure, mix, count, label, and record amounts
and dosages of medications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and qualify patients for indigent drug programs.
Communicate with program administrators for Patient Assistance Programs sponsored by drug manufacturers.
Keep abreast of changes occurring with the various Patient Assistant Programs.
Process Patient Assistance Program claims according to most recent program guidelines.
Obtain patient-specific related information as requested by the various programs.
Track Patient Assistance Program application process from start to finish.
Maintain database for receivables, applications, program communication and guidelines.
Maintain files for packing invoices.
Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests.
Fill bottles with prescribed medications and type and affix labels.
Assist customers by answering simple questions, locating items or referring them to the pharmacist for medication information.
Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
Clean, and help maintain, equipment, and work areas.
Establish and maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients.
Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.
Receive and store incoming supplies, verify quantities against invoices, and inform supervisors of stock needs and shortages.
Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
Mix pharmaceutical preparations according to written prescriptions.
Operate cash registers to accept payment from customers.
Compute charges for medication and equipment dispensed to clinic patients, and enter data in computer.
Price stock and mark items for sale.
Performs quality management/assurance activities.
Performs other tasks assigned by management personnel.
Education, Experience, Licensure/Certification and Skills/Abilities Related Requirements:
The pharmacy technician must be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
Must be fluent in English (oral and written), Spanish highly desired.
Continuing Education and Training Requirements:
Participates in trainings required by the funding source and/or as required by licensure
