This position is based out of Space City Home Network office located at 1201 San Jacinto St., Houston, TX and reports to the Traffic and Operations Manager. The position requires daily presence at the office.
Summary:
The Programming Manager oversees and manages the programming schedule for the network. This position is responsible for overseeing the successful planning and execution of programs, shows and games that positively impact our company’s innovation, production and revenue goals.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

- Schedule and maintain monthly and weekly reports that consist of but not limited to: Closed captioning, Daily Fill, Downlink, Originations, Ratings Reports, Nielsen E-names, Switching Schedules, TVE and VOD schedules as well as monthly schedule on our website.
- Evaluate and negotiate content options from 3rdparty suppliers and vendors to assess suitability for the regional audience and market. Accountable for understanding and adhering to all contractual deliverables for network programming including initiating contracts with legal and enforcing all applicable terms and conditions.
- Issue comprehensive communications to all internal stakeholders and distribution partners regarding programming planning, future schedules, aggregate schedules by type for Ad Sales and Affiliate Relations, aggregate live event schedules, etc.
- Provide complete, accurate and timely information to internal and external work groups ensuring that the network(s) air as scheduled. This may involve work after normal business hours (i.e. nights and weekends).
- Work with the Affiliate team to assure the accurate delivery of NBA games which are territorially restricted and provide alternate programming for viewers outside of this NBA Territory.
- Plan and develop systems, procedures and best practices to improve the operating quality of the programming department including developing solutions to enhance efficiencies.
- Bring and share ideas that contribute to the strategic vision and direction of the network.
- Develop with, and present to, the network and overall management team new creative concepts, formats, sales opportunities, and show ideas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in live television programming or related department of a 24/7 channel, preferably a sports network.
- Demonstrated track record as a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can create and manage comprehensive and interrelated documents and communications necessary to assure the accurate execution of a 24/7 channel (both automated functions and live functions).
- Strong knowledge of regional sports teams and prospects for success.
- Highly experienced in effectively communicating with management, clients, and business partners in a timely manner, including staff at professional teams and collegiate conferences/teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative work environment with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Demonstrate command of project management, the ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects/initiatives in a deadline-driven environment, ability to work well in advance of deadlines.
- Must be extremely detail oriented and dedicated to interacting with key staff during nights and weekends as needed.
- Able to understand and apply key contractual concepts in programming and team rights agreements.
- Must be collaborative and ready to work with diverse internal and external work groups.
- Ability to handle high volume of data and work quickly and accurately under deadlines.
- Must be able to evaluate programming content quality and relative value to local/regional audiences.
- Working knowledge of Wide Orbit or similar scheduling and automation software.
- Must be willing to take responsibility for all aspects of the play-out and execution of the programming schedule.
- Punctual, regular and consistent attendance including flexibility to work a varied schedule in support of regional network.
Work Environment
This job operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment.
