Title: Speech-Language Pathologist
Reports To: Director of Special Education/Principal
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 per year
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time (11-Month)

Our School 

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020 beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Student Evaluation and Assessment:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess students' speech and language abilities, identifying disorders and conditions that may require therapy services.
  • Analyze evaluation data to determine student eligibility for speech-language services and readiness for termination of therapy.
  • Prepare detailed assessment reports and provide recommendations based on evaluation results.

Therapy and Intervention:

  • Plan and provide individualized and group speech-language therapy sessions that align with each student’s IEP goals.
  • Use evidence-based practices and a variety of therapeutic techniques to address communication deficits.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting therapy plans as needed to meet goals and ensure effective outcomes.

IEP Collaboration and Goal Setting:

  • Actively participate in IEP meetings to assist with the interpretation of assessment data and collaborate in the development of appropriate placement and measurable goals for students with speech and language disorders.
  • Work with special education teams to ensure therapy goals are appropriately integrated into students' overall academic plans.

Teacher Collaboration and Classroom Support:

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement communication strategies and activities that reinforce speech and language skills in the classroom setting.
  • Provide training and support to school personnel regarding speech-language development and effective communication strategies for students with speech and language deficits.

Professional Development and Education:

  • Conduct professional development sessions for staff to raise awareness of speech-language disorders and provide strategies for supporting students in the classroom.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers, staff, and parents regarding speech and language development.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of therapy services, including progress reports, IEP updates, and other required reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, as well as school policies related to speech-language pathology services.
  • Ensure confidentiality and handle sensitive information in accordance with school policies and legal requirements.

Continuous Improvement and Service Evaluation:

  • Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of speech-language therapy services and adjust treatment plans based on student progress and feedback.
  • Assist in the selection and use of appropriate speech and language materials, resources, and technology to support therapy.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Valid state licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Experience in a school-based setting, with knowledge of IEP processes and special education services.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and document services accurately.
  • Familiarity with a variety of speech-language assessment tools and therapeutic approaches.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to take and implement feedback swiftly.
  • A strong commitment to the belief that all children can achieve their highest potential

Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
