Under the close supervision of the Jail Administrator, Transport Officers perform law enforcement transport work, including ancillary County Jail functions. Responsible for transporting inmates and related work as required. This work may involve an element of personal danger.
Examples of Transport Officer duties:
- Transports prisoners to and from court hearings, medical facilities and other facilities as necessary.
- Cleans transport vehicles.
- Receives training in applicable laws and ordinances and in law enforcement principles and procedures as they relate to the duties of the Transport Officer.
- Prepares reports and or paperwork as needed.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school graduation.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to drive an automobile safely and efficiently.
- Must be a minimum of eighteen years of age.
- Ability to exhibit mature judgment.
- Ability to defend self and others in instances of personal danger.
- Ability to deal with prisoners and the public with tact and impartiality.
- Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, law enforcement, other agencies, and the public.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions Must pass a personal background investigation.
- Knowledge of current law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment. Knowledge of the Sheriff's Office organization, policies and procedures.
- Be consistent in following OSHA regulations; County and Office safety rules; the Houston County Personnel & Houston County Sheriff's Office Policies and Procedures Manual; and specific job training.

A County employee in this position may encounter not public data as defined by Minnesota or federal law in the course of their position. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that is necessary to fulfill the defined job duties.
