Job Summary: The Houston County Board of Education is seeking a skilled custodian to maintain the cleanliness and organization of our buildings. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the delivery of instruction and ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for our students.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Additional Requirements: Must be at work on time, meet attendance standards, conduct activities safely, and be willing to work flexible shifts.

- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum hallways, stairs, and office space.
- Clean carpet, bathrooms, grounds, parking lots, windows, and AC/heating vents.
- Empty trash and garbage containers.
- Maintain building facilities and equipment.
- Set up and take down for school activities.
- Supply and resupply materials for restrooms.
- Change light bulbs.
- Notify principal concerning major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
- Clean sidewalks.
- Monitor use and amount of supplies and order as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
Requirements:
- High school education or GED preferred.
- One month related experience or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
