JOB TITLE: Elementary Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Certification in Educational Leadership, School Principal or Professional School Principal, or Administration and Supervision.
- Endorsement at Elementary Level.
- Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Superintendent/Designee
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages and administers the instructional program to ensure all students can learn.
- Manages and administers the accreditation program for the assigned school.
- Manages and administers the instructional program as outlined in the system guidelines.
- Manages and administers the development of short- and long-range plans to meet instructional and facility needs.
- Manages and administers the testing program for the school.
- Approves school-sponsored activities and maintains a calendar of all school events.
- Provides for the articulation of the school’s instructional program among school personnel.
- Interviews and selects qualified personnel to be recommended for employment.
- Supervises assigned personnel, conducts annual performance appraisals, and makes recommendations for the appropriate employment action.
- Assigns special tasks and assignments to all school personnel.
- Administers and develops instructional and non-instructional duty rosters.
- Coordinates plant safety and facility inspections at the assigned school.
- Manages and supervises the school financial resources including the preparation and disbursement of the school’s budget and internal accounts.
- Adheres to state statutes and system policies related to accounting to ensure judicious management of school funds.
- Establishes and manages student accounting and attendance procedures at the assigned school.
- Maintains accountability of property inventory records and security of school property.
- Provides a quick response to any emergency indoors or outdoors on the school site.
- Maintains high visibility in all areas of the facility.
- Supervises the orderly movement and safety of transportation services on school grounds.
- Establishes guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Coordinates the supervision of all extracurricular programs at the assigned school.
- Supervises the guidance program to ensure the individual student’s educational and developmental needs are met.
- Manages and administers personnel development through training, in-service, and other developmental activities.
- Orients newly assigned staff members and assist in their development.
- Guides and assists new teachers through the system’s orientation program and in accordance with state guidelines.
- Directs staff in developing a positive community relations program.
- Develops and maintains positive school/community relations and acts as a liaison between the two.
- Directs and develops the recruitment of business partners to benefit the school and community.
- Communicates through staff meetings and written material, information that will keep staff informed of policies, procedures, and instructional program changes and updates.
- Participates in system-wide management meetings and other meetings and activities appropriate for professional development.
- Provides leadership in the school improvement process and the implementation of the school improvement plan.
- Establishes a vision and mission for the school in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

- Ability to prepare and manage the school budget and allocated resources.
- Ability to read, interpret and enforce the State Board of Education rules, Code of Ethics, School Board policies, and appropriate state and federal statutes.
- Ability to select, hire, supervise, evaluate and reappoint personnel.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the public.
- Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and practice of current educational trends, research, and technology.
- Ability to understand the unique needs, growth problems, and characteristics of elementary school students.
- Ability to use group dynamics within the context of cultural diversity.
- Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about in a fast-paced and high-intensive work environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
