LOCATION: 2855 Gramercy St. Houston, TX 77025 Some travel as needed to other nearby Houston Eye locations.
POSITION SUMMARY
Contributes to the organization by assisting the physician and administration in keeping the medical practice running smoothly and efficiently. Must be well organized and have the ability to work in a team-oriented environment, communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other staff members. This position requires the ability to demonstrate composure and function efficiently while performing multiple tasks. Good communication, interpersonal and computer skills are essential with flexibility in work assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Triage incoming calls, review all phone message and return calls in a timely manner.
Scheduling surgeries and preparing all pertinent paperwork for surgeries by following all established surgery processes.
Handling patients' related issues including but not limited to, scheduling, appointments, insurance verification and authorizations.
Timely follow up on recommendations for patients' seen by on-call physician.
Managing physician appointment calendar, emails and other correspondence.
Responsible for front desk management while in clinic, including greeting patients, checking in and out, balancing collections, close out batches and reviewing appointment charges status reports at the end of each day.
If applicable, scheduling, billing and following up on physicians' inpatient hospital visits.
Preparing letters to referring physicians, insurance companies, etc.
Special projects as requested by immediate supervisor, physician or administration.
Scribe for physician when needed.
Qualifications/ Skills Requirements
Preferred: Training in business office activities (required); two years medical office experience (preferred) with knowledge of managed-care issues: Medicare, Medicaid, and 3rd-party payers; basic knowledge of medical terminology (specifically ophthalmologic).
Preferred: Basic knowledge of accounting procedures with strong knowledge/skills in computers.
