Description : POSITION SUMMARY :

The Annual Giving Manager is responsible for to maximizing the retention and growth of individual donors through the Houston Food Bank’s annual giving appeals. These appeals include direct mail, digital giving, tele fundraising, tribute giving, sustaining givers, and other initiatives. This role will oversee the planning, implementation, execution and analysis of all appeals, cultivation and stewardship activities associated with the annual giving program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • Works with the Director of Advancement Services to define, develop and execute annual giving fundraising strategies and sets annual budget.
  • Manages critical vendor relationships, as well as deadlines and approvals for direct mail, digital fundraising, and phone campaigns.
  • Measures and conducts appeal analysis on an ongoing basis to identify and respond to trends in donor response.
  • Oversees fundraising strategy and execution of direct marketing acquisition and cultivation activities, as well as additional associated promotional activities, including but not limited to website information updates, donation form optimizations, print mailings, e-blasts / e-newsletters, and social media, using Luminate Online and Raisers’ Edge NXT proficiently.
  • Supervises the coordination of stewardship and cultivation activities, including new donor welcome plans, Faithful Friends (sustainers) communications for new and lapsed donors, and other digital / print cultivation efforts.
  • Participates in the hiring process, coaches, mentors, and develops staff, including providing professional development planning and opportunities.
  • Adheres to AFP Code of Ethical Standards and HFB Donor Privacy policy.
  • Monitors income and expenses and conducts holistic ROI assessments for major appeals to clearly define success and determine future potential
  • Works with Donor Services Team to ensure all donor and gift information is accurate and tracked appropriately, as well as Marketing Communications staff to coordinate print and digital marketing campaigns.
  • Takes on additional responsibilities and reporting duties during disaster situations, including, but not limited to, drafting, designing, and sending emergency response emails and other donor communications.
  • Develops and implements segmentation strategies and donor journeys for various donor groups, including mid-level, sustainers, lapsed, and new donors, using both online (email) and offline (direct mail) communication channels.
  • Coordinates and oversee the scheduling, planning, and execution of resource-gathering visits with local partners and distributions to interview neighbors and generate new content for donor updates and communications. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, transcribing, and writing stories as needed.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of fundraising software and tools as needed and leads the RFP process to identify and secure the best partners and software to optimize fundraising success.
  • Builds and maintains strong and effective working relationships, internally and externally.
  • Assists with the creation of annual expense and revenue budgets for Annual Giving appeals

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Manages two (two) or more direct reports by providing guidance and / or oversight to employees and / or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development, and perform administrative duties associated with being a people manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring and participating in and / or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members.

Requirements : QUALIFICATIONS :

Education / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business, Public Administration, Liberal Arts or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Minimum three years’ experience directly related to professional fundraising
  • Previous direct mail coordination or management experience is strongly preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Proficiency with fundraising CRM (Raisers’ Edge NXT) and / or online fundraising software (Luminate, GiveSmart) preferred
  • Proficiency with project management software, such as Asana, Basecamp or similar preferred
  • Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations :

    Certified Fund Raising Professional (CFRE) certification preferred

    Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance (only)

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee must occasionally travel to other sites for business.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

    TRAVEL REQUIRED :

    Travel is required for this position (up to 10% of the time and on a domestic basis within our 18-county service area as well as sometimes out of our service area for conferences and training).

    This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
