POSITION SUMMARY:                                                           

The Warehouse Lead is responsible for maintaining smooth operations of all day-to-day operations as they relate to receiving, order selecting, bin slotting, and sanitation in areas including freezer cooler produce rooms and dry areas in the Warehouse but not excluding outside grounds if needed. The Warehouse Lead provides exceptional customer service and supports receiving and operations programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Reliable, consistent, attendance is a requirement. This position requires punctuality and dependable attendance to meet the needs of the business, including attending and taking part in meetings and presentations.
  2. Assists the operations by working with the Warehouse Associates assigned in the warehouse area, including training them in various aspects of their assigned tasks and keeping the Warehouse Supervisor informed about safety and effectiveness issues.
  3. Responsible for the physical cycle count process of product donation, and purchased products as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor.
  4. Ensures that orders are pulled correctly and ready for distribution and/or pick-up tagged with barcode tags in bin locations. 
  5. Completes the slotting of products from the receiving area into the warehouse.
  6. Ensures that all products and pallets are received correctly and racked in a timely manner.
  7. Recoups all damaged products found during the bin slotting fulfillment process.
  8. Assists customers in loading/unloading their vehicles.
  9. Supports Volunteer Services in pulling Project Requisition Order Sheet (PROS) and with Saturday coverage and coverage during periods when Houston Food Bank (HFB) has large volumes of volunteers. 
  10. Completes all paperwork in a timely fashion.
  11. Completes verifications of the Receiving Order Detail Sheet (RODS) to ensure quantities are recorded correctly.
  12. Communicate effectively with staff on log changes and perishable cooler/freezer spoilage and maintain quality control logs and spoilage paperwork.
  13. Maintain a clean safe and friendly work environment and warehouse by completing daily sanitation lists. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate 
  • 2 years of warehousing experience
  • Supervisory and team leadership experience preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

short pallet jack, manual jack, scan guns, computer, copier, and other business equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee must regularly move about the office and around the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee must frequently lift 50 pounds. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to freezers, enclosed and/or tight spaces, wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be exposed to loud/elevated noises throughout the workday.

No travel is required for this role. 

This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
