Mission

Houston Habitat for Humanity's mission is to eliminate substandard housing in the city of Houston by helping low to moderate income families or individuals to earn a simple, decent home in which to live and raise their children.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Carpenter Responsibilities :

Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood using hand tools and power tools.

Studies blueprints, sketches, or plans for requirement of the material to be fabricated.

Marks the measurements on the material to be cut and cuts by using tools.

Verifies the Integrity of the wood structure.

Perform Frame Punch as needed in houses.

Erects framework for structures and sub flooring.

Creates new templates design based on Architect drawing.

Assist in designing drawing for new projects.

Construction House Leader Responsibilities :

Frame and general carpentry work on single family homes from start up to dry in stage

Construction of new and renovated homes

Lead, train and oversee crews of volunteers and Habitat family partners in building homes

Provide safety and construction training to volunteer crews

Prepare the construction site for the day by making sure supplies and tools are loaded, delivered, unloaded and ready

Understands the use of construction related material & tools incl. power tools

Follows safety standards and ensures that all safety standards are followed by volunteers

Assists with maintaining vehicles, tools and equipment

Assists with keeping the warehouse in neat and orderly fashion

Directs InnerChange and volunteers in various work tasks according to skill level

Performs all other duties and task as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED

One to Two years carpentry skills in framing and trim work.

Able to drive a Box Truck or Flatbed Truck and Trailer to and from jobsite

Must be a self-starter with good communication skills

Leadership experience preferred

Moderate math skills.

Must be patient and flexible with a sense of community service / helping others.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, squat, bend, climb, crouch, crawl, and use of tools.

Ability to reach with hands and arms.

Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions hot, humid, rain, and cold).

Moderate noise level.

Generally, works Tuesday - Saturday 6 : 30am - 3 : 00pm

Salary Description

20-25, depending on experience

Salary : $20 - $25
