What are the responsibilities and job description for the In-Patient Unit Staff RN - PRN position at Houston Hospice?

At Houston Hospice, we focus on caring, not curing. We take a team approach to care that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, hospice aides, volunteers, and bereavement counselors. We provide hospice service wherever patients and families need us: in their home, in a long-term care facility, or in our inpatient care unit that is based in the Texas Medical Center. Our team of doctors and nurses specialize in managing pain and symptoms that are unique to life-limiting illnesses.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care appropriate for a licensed RN.
- Participate in the development of the patient’s plan of care and coordinate the services and activities of the multidisciplinary team in respect to the plan of care.
- Document activities and assessments in the clinical information system and appropriately updates team members.
- Provide support to patient’s family/friends including education, expectations, and reporting changes in condition.
- Support the organization’s goals, initiatives, and value system.
- Understand and is compliant with organizational policies and processes relating to regulatory, accreditation and privacy standards.
- Perform other duties as required and/or requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Current Texas RN license.
- Current certification in basic life support.
- Ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Good interpersonal skills – able to effectively relate and communicate with team members and patients from a diverse community.
- Knowledge and experience in a hospice or hospital setting is preferred.
- Experience using a clinical information system ERP is preferred.
