7a-7p/7p-7a (As Needed Basis)I Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the monitoring and assessment of patient on cardiac monitoring devices throughout the HHC organization including telemetry transmitters and hard-wired monitors. This role is trained in ECG interpretation and is responsible for continuous monitoring of all telemetry rhythms, interpreting rhythm strips, measuring specific waveform intervals, and interacting professionally with nursing staff and physicians in rhythm identification notification of deviation from baseline, as well as initiating baseline data collection of each event.
II Qualifications:
Education & Training:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. General knowledge of medical
terminology.
Experience:
Two (2) year’s of experience in an acute clinical care setting with one (1) of those years being in Telemetry (Rhythm Recognition).
Required Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Current AHA/ARC BLS certification or obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.
Successful completion of post-hire 4-6 week Telemetry Clinical Orientation and
passing score on the ECG written exam (Rhythm Interpretation) within ninety
(90) days of hire. Successful completion of hands-on clinical competencies during the orientation period.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to effectively monitor patient cardiac rhythms via telemetry or hardwired
monitor, in addition to utilizing all other equipment as assigned to facilitate
quality patient care. Communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers,
patients, and staff through written and verbal means in a high workflow
environment. Maintain patient monitoring log and document rhythms in medical records. Label telemetry strips with rhythm interpretation, ventricular rate, and measure PR, QT, and ST segment intervals. Scan / upload monitored strips every 4 hours, in addition to as needed requests as appropriate based on assigned unit and patient acuity as relayed by nursing staff. Must be able to maintain established alarm limit / parameter settings on all patients assigned. Proficiency demonstrated to Departmental Educator / Manager using GE, Airstrip, and Ascom clinical platforms.
