Position Overview :
Animal Caretakers work with the animals every day. It is the responsibility of the Animal Caretakers to ensure that the animals in the facility receive quality and humane care, and that the appropriate personnel are notified if an animal is : in distress; appears sick or injured; needs to be seen by a veterinarian; or, is fighting with other animals, and / or needs to be moved due to aggression. Additionally, Animal Caretakers are responsible for the sanitation and cleanliness of the facility.
Daily Duties and Responsibilities :
- Clean and disinfect kennels and cages throughout the facility at the times, and in the manner required by current cleaning procedures.
- Prepare food appropriate for species, in proportions and at times required according to age and size, and continually provide fresh water.
- Pick up and properly dispose of leftover food and waste.
- Sanitize litter and food pans daily.
- Sweep and clean floors using proper equipment and as required by current cleaning procedures.
- Perform janitorial duties, empty trash, clean bathrooms, employee break areas, administration areas, etc.
- Wash and fold towels, blankets, and other bedding and store in designated places.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the inside and outside of the buildings as required and assigned.
- Move animals noted scheduled for surgery that day to the designated pick-up area.
- All other tasks assigned by manager / supervisor that arise during the work day.
- Notify Facilities / Property Manager of anything needing repair, replacement, or attention.
