JOB SUMMARY
The Analyst 1 is responsible for conducting data analysis, providing insights, and supporting decision-making processes within the department. This role involves collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, preparing reports, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive data-driven strategies and initiatives.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Collect and analyze data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity.
2. Use statistical techniques and analytical tools to interpret data and identify patterns, trends, and insights.
3. Prepare reports, dashboards, and visualizations to effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and provide analytical support for decision-making processes.
5. Conduct research and gather information to support data analysis and inform strategic initiatives.
6. Assist in the development and implementation of data collection and analysis methodologies, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
7. Identify areas for process improvement and recommend data-driven solutions to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
8. Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data analysis and reporting.

9. Collaborate with IT and other teams to ensure data availability, accuracy, and security.
10. Participate in project teams, providing analytical support and contributing to the achievement of project goals and objectives.
11. Support the development and maintenance of data management systems, including data cleaning, validation, and documentation.
12. Provide training and support to colleagues on data analysis tools and techniques.
13. Maintain a strong understanding of industry best practices, standards, and regulations related to data analysis and privacy.
14. Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in all data analysis and reporting activities.
15. Adhere to ethical standards and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related field
SKILL AND / OR REQUIRED LICENSING / CERTIFICATION
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze complex data sets.
Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
Solid understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies, such as regression analysis, hypothesis testing, and data modeling.
Experience with database querying languages (e.g., SQL) and data manipulation tools.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data analysis and reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex data and findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions and formulas.
Knowledge of data governance and data management best practices.
Familiarity with data visualization best practices and the ability to create visually compelling and informative reports.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a curious mindset and a passion for uncovering insights from data.
Experience in the education sector or related fields is a plus.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive data with discretion.
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY / INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on both routine and non-routine matters with some latitude, but are still subject to approval. Job is occasionally expected to recommend new solutions to problems and improve existing methods or generate new ideas.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.

Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.

Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING / ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
