Job Summary
The Neurophysiology (EMG) Technologist II position at Houston Methodist is responsible for highly complex nerve conduction recordings and monitoring additional neurophysiological phenomena. This role involves providing advanced documentation, ensuring comprehensive, timely, and accurate recording, accounting, and reporting of results, and developing clinical findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Communication
- Explain test procedures to patients and answer their questions to ensure accurate results.
- Interface with physicians, department staff, and other disciplines to evaluate and modify testing as needed.
- Teamwork
- Function as a team member, responding willingly and positively to colleagues' needs for assistance and partnership.
- Promote a positive work environment with the interprofessional care team.
- Mentorship
- Train and mentor less experienced technologists, as appropriate.
- Safety and Quality
- Ensure accurate testing procedures by planning and organizing materials and supplies in the appropriate work areas prior to patient arrival.
- Determine necessary procedures and equipment based on physician instructions.
- Prevent electrical interference and describe all abnormal clinical manifestations observed during tests.

- Identify opportunities for process improvement and provide recommendations impacting department quality and safety targets.
- Contribute to meeting department targets for quality and safety.
- Financial Management
- Collaborate with physicians to ensure accurate coding and charge capture.
- Maintain equipment and supplies effectively and efficiently.

- Offer innovative solutions through advanced participation in performance improvement projects and department activities.
- Education
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Graduate of an accredited electro-neurodiagnostic technology program.
- Work Experience
- Three years in a clinic and/or hospital setting performing varying levels of electrodiagnostic procedures.
- Licenses and Certifications
- CNCT - Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (ABEM)
- RNCST - Registered Nerve Conduction Technologist (AAET)
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
- Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English language necessary to perform essential functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
- Competence in the use of computers and neurodiagnostic equipment.
