Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Imaging Services Assistant position is responsible for assisting the imaging technical staff with activies to enhance safety, exam quality, and provision of service within the department. This position performs tasks that range from patient movement throughout the department and hospital, obtains supplies, room preparation, disinfection of equipment and room, that promote efficiency through completion of tasks that do not require a licensed individual. The Imaging Services Assistant position demonstrates competence to adapt to work and customer service to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, safety and other developmental needs of patients served by the department. Responsibilities
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal department results. Under instruction of technologists, works collaboratively with the imaging team to perform tasks that enhance the efficiency of the department.
- Transports patients when necessary to/from the department to ensure the imaging equipment is not waiting for the next patient. Functions as a team member, responding willingly to colleagues' needs for assistance and partnership.
- Provides contributions towards improvement of department scores for employee engagement on department scorecard, i.e. peer-to-peer accountability.
- Under direction of the imaging sevices staff, communicates with patient/family, and staff members regarding delays or status changes associated with the exam.
- Facilitates patient trips to/in changing rooms and restrooms in order to expediate the patient's journey through the department.
- Proactively seeks out assignments and learning opportunities within assigned department or on teams that cross departments. Follows up on action items to ensure completion of assignments.
- Conducts patient and family-centered care standards and follows through with meeting patient needs. Uses peer-to-peer accountability, towards improving department metrics for patient satisfaction and care.
- Ensures work areas are clean, uncluttered, and stocked in accordance with department protocals.
- Organizes the work flow, problem-solves basic and routine matters, seeking guidance and assistance from imaging services staff, by utilizing resource persons, i.e. licensed technologist, or management, policy and procedure manuals, or other references on standards of care.
- Contributes to identification of corrective action and improvement activities, impacting quality and safety targets, through peer-to-peer accountability, reporting near misses, and collaborating with the interprofessional team.
- Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, prioritize daily tasks to meet established and committed deadlines, minimizing incidental overtime. Utilizes time efficiently and helps other team members.
- Provides recommendations to improve processes that enhance safety, workflows and patient care.
- Seeks opportunities to identify self-development needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.
Qualifications
EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education, etc.)
- Enrollment in an accredited imaging school preferred
- Previous imaging student experience preferred or have worked in a hospital or other customer service industry preferred
License/Certification
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS - REQUIRED- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA)
