Description of Duties/Essential Functions
The Houston Public Library is searching for a highly motivated, customer service focused person to work full time as a Customer Service Clerk for Youth and Family Services Administration. This department is responsible for systemwide programs, including several Signature Events throughout the year focused on ages 0-18.
The selected candidate will work as part of the Youth Services programming team, assisting with HPL’s annual Summer Reading Program, including event set up, execution, as well as creating, checking-in and restocking program kits. The position may require evening and weekend work as well as physical labor.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) contract position beginning May 5, 2025 and ending August 29, 2025 (total of 16 weeks). There is flexibility for beginning and ending contract dates, which can be discussed at time of hire.
Responsibilities include:
Perform clerical duties related to summer reading program take-away kit circulation.
Assist with program set up and clean up, including moving tables, chairs, and other equipment.
Create, Check-in and restock all program kits
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Smartsheets required
May require working evenings and weekends as needed for Summer Reading Program event support
Ability to effectively communicate both in writing and orally.
Ability to work with a team and individually
Other duties as required.
