IT Architect

Position Purpose:

The Houston’s IT Architect implements the technical leadership path within the IT department. The IT Architect is responsible for systems maintenance and technology improvements which play a key role meeting objectives for growth. It is a position of trust within the company.

Essential Functions and Duties:

• Ensure that technology solutions meet business requirements and industry standards and incorporate opportunities arising from emerging technologies.
• Design, develop, implement, and coordinate systems; provide input to the IT Director for maintenance of policies and procedures.
• Ownership of the servers, networks, phones, applications, PC’s, printers, and all other IT related services.
• Be the 2nd level escalation point, responsible for troubleshooting and resolution of issues escalated by team members, internal customers, external partners, and critical systems, including implementing and deploying emergency fixes.
• Act in alignment with use needs and system functionality to contribute to organizational policy.
• Interfaces with IT service, software, and hardware companies in support of business-critical systems.
• Provide regular feedback to the IT Director on needs for coaching and training employees for technical performance improvement and development.
• Work closely with the IT Director to ensure that the IT roadmap is on track by identifying any resource gaps in the team to meet company goals.
• Provide insight and consultation to the IT Director on IT infrastructure team projects, aligning the security of data, network access, and back-up systems.
• Provide insight and consultation to the IT Director on the IT Web team projects, ensuring the functionality of all externally facing systems meet expectations.
• Provide insight and consultation to the IT Director on the IT PICK team projects, maintaining jBASE at a high level of availability for all business departments and implementation of new features.
• Work closely with IT Director and provide insight toward the development and management of a high-performance team to support and enhance IT infrastructure and Operations with clear and concise goals and objectives as defined by the IT Director.
• Provide direct input to the IT Director regarding hiring, staffing, training, and technical management process.
• Audit systems and assess their outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications - Knowledge and Skills:

• Proven experience as IT Architect or similar role.
• Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.
• Extensive knowledge of IT-related functions, including server computer hardware, network design, implementation, and operation, security, telecommunications, databases, and storage systems.
• Demonstrates technical management and decision-making skills with a proven track record of completing tasks and/or projects on schedule.
• Advanced working knowledge of RedHat and Debian-based Linux server operating systems and PICK Multi-Value Databases required (specifically jBASE).
• Advanced working knowledge of virtual machines (Proxmox, VMWare) and network attached storage (TrueNAS) required.
• Advanced working knowledge of the Apache web server, network routing, and IP-based phone systems required.
• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Office365/Exchange), Infrastructure planning experience, disaster recovery.
• Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Ability to present ideas in a business-friendly and user-friendly language.
• Teamwork orientation.
• Git, PHP, and general programming background required.

Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related technical discipline required.
• 10 years experience in Information Technology.
• 7 years experience managing an IT operation and staff.

While performing the duties, this position is frequently required to sit; look at the computer screen; and use hands and fingers for fine manipulation. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Some lifting up to 75 lbs, is required.

The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
