Job Summary
The Assistant Director (ADON) coaches, directs, and monitors the quality of care and the quality of life of the Elders in The Green House homes. The ADON acts as a direct supervisor to the self-managed work team of Shahbazim and is responsible for evaluating the outcomes of their work, both individually and as a team. The role of ADON is to oversee compliance, competence, and operational issues.

- Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the day-to-day operations of the Nursing Services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations.
- Assists in the preparation of inspection surveys, including staff in-services on survey processes, and participation in mock surveys as indicated.
- Participates in all admission decisions as indicated.
- Participates in Green House Leadership team meetings to discuss census changes, elder changes in status, complaints or concerns.
- Assists in oversight of elder incidents and concerns daily to identify any unusual occurrences and reports them promptly to the Director of Nursing, Administrator, and/or state agency for appropriate action.
- Monitors, assists, and implements the infection control program in accordance with current infection control guidelines to prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection. Maintain Infection control records for staff and elders.
- Participates in QAPI or facility assessment activities as needed, such as carrying out duties assigned as part of a performance improvement committee.
- Communicates directly with elders, medical and nursing staff, family members, department leaders and members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and services and respond to and resolve complaints and concerns.
- Participate in budget development and monitoring for the nursing department, medical, nursing and central supplies.
- Facilitates, serves, attends or participates in various committees of the facility as appointed.
- Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and maintaining optimal elder functions.
- Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify and resolve issues and improve the quality of services.
- Performs rounds to observe Elders and ensure nursing needs are being met.
- Conducts observations of nursing care and supervises development of in-service education to ensure nursing staff is competent in current knowledge and skills.
- Participates in the facility’s plan of correction response to an inspection survey and implements any follow-up required for nursing allegations
- Monitors for allegations of potential abuse or neglect, or misappropriation of elder property and participates in the investigative process.
- Attend and participate in elder care conferences providing observations, achievements and concerns about Elder in your care.
- Team Members & Training
- Interpret, communicate and enforce policies and procedures to team members.
- Participates in the recruitment, hiring and termination of Shahbazim and nursing personnel.
- Evaluate work performance of team members and implement discipline according to operational and HR policies.
- Maintain and develop relationships with the Nurses and Shahbazim in the Green House home.
- Mentor team members who need additional support in working as a contributing part of a self-managed team and assuming the responsibilities of the Shahbaz.
- Review the nurses’ and Shabazim schedules to assure compliance with staffing requirements, regulations and organizational policy.
- Determine education, information, training, coaching, and feedback needs of the nurses and Shabazim.
- Apply situational leadership techniques to support the development of team members.
- Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Visit each Green House home throughout the workday to monitor clinical care and status of the Elders
- Support the nurses to make decisions related to clinical care.
- Monitor timely compliance of collection and submission of MDS data per organizational policies.
- Obtain regular verbal report from nurses regarding the clinical status of the Elders.
- Review Elder clinical status as required, using visits and clinical reports from organizational tracking systems.
- Discuss observations/concerns about clinical compliance with the nurses, and/or Shahbaz Care Coordinator as applicable based on the situation.
- Discuss observations/concerns about housekeeping issues with the Housekeeping supervisor and Shabazim as applicable based on the situation.
- Promotes safe work practices, safety rules, and accident prevention procedures to prevent employee injury and illness.
- May provide direct nursing care as necessary.
- Acts in an administrative/management capacity in the absence of the Director of Nursing and/or Administrator.
- Support team members with performing elder care as needed.
- Physical Demands/Working Conditions
- Able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stop, walk, and move frequently during working hours.
- Able to lift 40 lbs. floor to waist, lift 10 lbs. waist to shoulder, lift and carry 40 lbs., and push/pull 40 lbs.
- Able to assist in the evacuation of Elders.
- Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of one year experience as a direct supervisor in a hospital, nursing home, or other related health care facility preferred.
- Current unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN)or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Colorado.
- Infection prevention Certification or willingness/ability to obtain certification.
- Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to long-term care.
- CPR certification which must remain current during employment.
- Minimum of one year experience in a senior care or skilled nursing setting preferred.
