What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Director, Baird School & INCLUSION – Anticipated Opening position at Howard Center?
The Baird School offers an opportunity to lead a unique educational environment for children ages 5-14 (grades K-8) whose needs cannot be met in a regular education setting. Students engage in academic, social, emotional, and behavioral programming to develop skills and strategies that will enable them to succeed in the least restrictive educational environment.
The Education Director is responsible for leading the school and academic vision. This individual will work collaboratively with the teaching team, staff, and administrators to ensure curriculum effectiveness, student achievement, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in alternative education, a deep understanding of the unique needs of alternative learners and be able to hit the ground running to make an immediate impact. They will have a strong background in curriculum implementation and evaluation, particularly in non-traditional settings. Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills are necessary. Proven ability to foster positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the broader community is essential. Candidate must have a passion for helping students reach their academic and personal potential, regardless of background or challenges.
Responsibilities
•Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing development of academic curricula tailored to the needs of alternative learners.
•Manage the process of introducing new academic programs, ensuring alignment with school goals, state standards, and student
needs.
•Ensure that new curricula are successfully integrated into daily classroom instruction during the first year and continue to evolve
and improve in subsequent years.
•Provide ongoing support and professional development to the special education administrator, teachers and staff, ensuring they
are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively implement curricula.
•Monitor student progress and academic performance, using data-driven strategies to identify areas for improvement and develop
interventions.
•Collaborate with school leadership to create a culture of academic excellence and innovation that prioritizes student success.
•Communicate regularly with students, families, and school partners regarding academic goals, performance, and improvements.
•Foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to reach their
full potential.
