CLASS DESCRIPTION:
Performs senior technical level licensing, inspections and regulations work under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior.Include the following.

Reads and interprets approved construction and shop drawings of electrical installations; reads and interprets electrical plans, materials list, specifications and methods of installation.
Inspects electrical installations during construction of new, remodeled, or altered buildings and structures to enforce laws and ordinances applicable to residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Work includes inspecting new and existing installations of electrical conductors and equipment in buildings and structures.
Calculates and verifies loads and demand factors to insure electrical circuits and services to all structures are within the scope of the National Electrical Code.
Performs electrical inspections on all types of residential, commercial, and industrial complexes to insure compliance with the National Electrical Code.
Uses modern computer software to electronically document results of inspections, reads and interprets approved construction plans, and shop drawings of building construction, etc.; reads and interprets specifications, and methods of installation, and verifies installation at time of field inspection.
Inspects and electronically documents the results of inspections of the exterior and interior areas of residential, commercial, industrial, and other buildings and structures during and after construction to ensure that all electrical components comply with the National Electric Code.
Responsible for electronic documentation and maintenance of case history including the insertion of digital photographs into electronically prepared documents; completes inspection reports via the computer; prepares documentation for legal action; issues violations and civil citations, and provides supporting data in legal proceedings, and testifies in court as needed.
Determines time limit for corrective measures; electronically documents and notifies owner and/or builder; re-inspects property to determine compliance.; responsible for issuance of violations and civil citations; provides supporting data in legal proceedings and testifies at Court proceedings.
Interprets the code and recommends guidance to contractors, engineers, architects, craft-workers, and owners to assure compliance with adopted codes and standards.
Conducts and electronically documents inspection report forms; prepares daily reports of activities, weekly or monthly reports of time use, mileage and expense reports; prepares documentation for legal action.
Conducts and electronically documents inspection and investigation of complaints and alleged complaint violations; resolves code related complaints.
Electronically documents inspection records and case histories and follows up on progress inspections required for permits scheduled for expiration.
Researches inspection and permit information utilizing the internet based permitting software system (Accela); utilizes laptop for electronic documentation, email and word processing.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Associate's degree and considerable related electrical installation experience in residential and commercial electrical construction, demonstrated advanced skills in the operation of laptops, smartphones and apps.
Demonstrated ability to fully utilize personal computer systems, including internet, email, Windows, and Microsoft Office software.
Typing skills; computer skills, including email and basic programs such as Windows, Word and Excel. Strong writing skills are necessary for writing reports and letters.
Must be able to use a digital camera for documentation. Must be able to read and send text messages via personal cell phone.
ICC Residential Electrical Inspector Certification- E1 and ICC Commercial Electrical inspector Certification-E2.
