POSITION SUMMARY:

Technical work involving instrument repair or installation at the Water Reclamation Plant and similar pump and water distribution facilities.

STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE:
$24.55 - $29.19

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

This is skilled technical work at the journeyman level, concerned with the repair, maintenance and installation of a variety of electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and mechanical instruments and systems which are used in various water distribution, sewage, or flood control plants. Assignments involve both routine and non-routine repair, installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment. Work is performed under general supervision of a technical or administrative superior. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with accepted standards and applicable regulations. An employee in this class may operate equipment and hand and power tools. Contacts with the public are limited.

Include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned.

Insures that electronic and pneumatic instrumentation used in monitoring various water distribution and water reclamation operations is functioning properly.

Uses industrial test equipment such as ammeters, voltmeters, manometers, and oscilloscopes and specialized test equipment made by the respective equipment suppliers to monitor and calibrate instrumentation systems.

Participates in a preventive maintenance program. Investigates reports of equipment malfunctions and takes necessary corrective action.

Services equipment such as level indicators/controllers, flow indicators/controllers, current indicators/controllers, temperature indicator/controllers, PH, turbidity and chlorine residual meters, pneumatic controls, in addition to other equipment utilized at assigned locations.

Aids in establishing and maintaining adequate parts inventory.

This position is designated as an emergency/essential position and may be required to respond in a variety of emergency situations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May direct others. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade; and three (3) years related experience in electronics and instrumentation repair work as related to process control equipment. 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Thorough knowledge of electronics theory and of the methods and practices of electronic equipment repair.

Thorough knowledge of the functioning and maintenance of process control instrumentation and electronic equipment.

Skill in calibrating different brands and type of instruments.

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and other specifications.

Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Ability to locate, diagnose and correct defects in electronic and mechanical instrumentation devices.

Ability to read instrumentation data accurately and to maintain record of maintenance activities.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to perform skilled laboring tasks as required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee is responsible for using safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work related accidents. The employee is also responsible for using safe practices and methods in the operation of equipment and supplies related to their particular job. The employee is further responsible for correcting and/or reporting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to the public, co-workers, or other county employees. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS, MATHEMATICAL SKILLS AND REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 


Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 


Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. A valid Maryland Class C Driver's license. 

A Wastewater Collection Class 2, and a Water Distribution System Operators License may be required within the timeframe established by the management team.
