As a member of the Howard County Government team, you'll be helping drive our culture and directly impact what makes us an amazing place to work.POSITION SUMMARY: Paraprofessional legal work in the State's Attorney's Office.STARTING SALARY IS $55,808 ANNUALLY AND $26.83 HOURLY: ***This is a State Authorized Exempt position and is ineligible for membership in a collective bargaining unit.***CLASS DESCRIPTION: Performs senior secretarial or routine paralegal work, which include supervisory responsibility, under general supervision from an administrative or technical superior. Work typically involves independent and confidential secretarial work as the appointed secretary to a Circuit Court Judge; or work may involve writing briefs, conducting research and providing other paralegal support to a legal staff.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.Prepare criminal cases for prosecution in the Circuit Court Division by reviewing all statement of charges, information and indictments to determine essential witnesses. Summons all necessary witnesses for trial. Secure any missing reports, statements, etc. for the file. Subpoena any necessary records (i.e. hospital, phone, etc.).Under supervision and review by an attorney, identifies problems of law, researches and locates cases, and prepares memoranda on assigned topics.Prepares draft discovery requests, interrogatories and document production requests, and tracks responses.Assists attorneys in preparing for trial, including preparing exhibits, organizing files, copying documents, and attending and assisting at trial as necessary.Obtains criminal records through the NCIC/MILES database system.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Ability to pass background check in order to get NCIC Certification from the Department of Public Safety.
