What are the responsibilities and job description for the Teen After School Programs Assistant position at Howard County Library System?
Description
- Assists students aged 10 – 14 with homework
- Works with the Teen Instructor & Research Specialist to coordinate additional afterschool activities
- Assists with daily set-up and clean-up of teen afterschool program, including but not limited to, lifting/moving tables, chairs and boxes
- Maintains orderly appearance of materials in the teen area, assisting with shelf-reading and collection maintenance
- Establishes and maintains effective relationships with middle school students, their parents, school staff and other involved community members
- Assists with maintaining discipline, safety and control of site
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
- Adheres to all policies and procedures
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
Education, Experience & Skills
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Some college experience preferred
- People skills – ability to work effectively with teens and enjoy it
- Demonstrated desire to work with youth and teens
- Demonstrated ability to establish a rapport with the teen population
- Knowledge of appropriate teen activities and materials
- Computer proficiency – ability to use programs/processes such as the Internet, social networking and gaming
- Knowledge of community and current events
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
- Current valid driver’s license
Physical Requirements
- Job allows for some variance in work routine and considerable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling and sitting and arranging rooms for events.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Position located at the East Columbia Branch
- Temporary position that lasts until mid-June
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
- Works under the supervision of the Branch Manager
- Salary: $16.00 per hour
