POSITION SUMMARY / CLASS DESCRIPTION
Howard County Recreation and Parks operates the Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum. This position performs intermediate level recreation services work ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the museum and provides support to the management staff. Works closely with the B&O Manager to ensure efficient museum operations and other duties as assigned. This position assumes primary cashier duties and provides customer service and support for museum operations. Job hours can range from Tuesday-Sunday. Museum hours are Wednesday-Sunday; weekend and evening work is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes daily opening and closing duties checklists.
Greet all visitors, directs guests around the museum based on their interests or purpose for visiting.
Monitors museum patrons and enforces museum rules.
Responsible for general cleaning and light museum maintenance duties as needed.
Communicates clearly and courteously with the public and coworkers including issues that could affect public safety.
Acts as primary gift shop cashier, assists with gift shop product placement and inventory restocking on sales floor.
Assists Museum Manager with data entry for gift shop product inventory.
Schedules museum volunteers, enters volunteer hours in spreadsheets.
Assists with educational programs and museum history tours on an as-needed basis.
Daily monitoring of museum voicemail and directing messages to appropriate party.
Makes phone calls as directed contacting participants with cancellations, program updates and maintains program wait lists.
Answers a multi-line phone and directs calls to the appropriate staff person.
Set up and take down of equipment rentals.
Provides marketing and program promotional materials to walk in customers. Keep whiteboards up to date.
Performs data processing including program attendance, rental attendance and special event attendance.
Work closely with the Museum Manager and other staff, to conduct efficient registration and program / special event check-ins.
Work closely with the Museum Manager and Program Specialist for assistance with program marketing.
Performs other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operations of the museum.
Wear Recreation and Parks shirt.
Be trained in the use of the AED, CPR and First Aid.
Responsible for identifying and applying good sustainability practices into all aspects of Department operations.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
QUALIFICATIONS :
Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Experience with or willingness to learn gift shop operations.
Possess good communication skills.
Be flexible, reliable, responsible and enjoy working with the general public.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
