TITLE: Long Term Substitute - Grade 4 needed from Jan. 28, 2025 for approximately 6 to 8 weeks to fill a leave of absence.

(SUMMARY) JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conductive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
CERTIFICATE / LICENSE REQUIRED:
Certificate required by the Rhode Island State Department of Education. Current Rhode Island Teacher Certificates in the appropriate subject area and level.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES:
1. Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
2. Participates in and implements district and school-based professional development activities
3. Plans and conducts activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to learn, observe, question, and investigate in alignment with appropriate State and local standards
4. Instructs students individually and in groups using various teaching methods such as workshop model, discussions and demonstrations
5. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
6. Takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
7. Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communications with parents, colleagues and community
8. Monitors and assesses student progress and adjusts student instruction accordingly
9. Makes recommendations about appropriate accommodations for all types of formal assessments
10. Establishes and maintains standards of students behavior needed to achieve a positive learning environment in the classroom
11. Adheres to the Rhode Island Educator Code of Professional Responsibility
12. Works collaboratively with peers at the school and district level to improve teaching, learning and educational programming for students
13. Performs other duties as designated by the building administrator
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Communicate and detect information at levels to be able to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the
telephone
2. Express oneself so others will be able to clearly understand
3. Constantly operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper
4. Detect, determine, perceive and identify documentation and reports, and to observe students
5. Able to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints
6. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and
possible move and traverse in order to maintain a safe learning environment
7. Stamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events
8. Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations
9. Position self to be able to retrieve items overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
10.Move and transport moderately heavy objects
