Candidates must be certified in, or eligible for certification in a 9-12 content area. Bibb County is a Strategic Waiver District. Alternative Certification routes are available to individuals with a degree from an accredited institution.
Job Summary
The Freshmen Seminar instructor will focus on successful strategies to assist with transitions to high school, as well as preparation for college and career readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The instructor creates an environment and routines to assist students in the transition from middle to high school.
- The instructor will provide student-centered academic advising to students, with an emphasis on services for first-year high school students.
- The instructor will serve as an advisor and monitor the academic progress and success of approximately 125 students each academic year.
- The instructor will assist in the development of students individual graduation plans appropriate for their stated educational goals and guide their career exploration process.
- The instructor will assist with planning and implementation of initiatives including but not limited to orientation, advisement workshops, advising materials and outreach activities.
- The instructor will model high assessments of achievement and growth mindset for all students.
- The instructor will schedule and attend college and career visits twice a year with students.
- The instructor will communicate with students and parents/guardians about students’ academic progress and educational plans.
- The instructor will assist students with setting and achieving ambitious/realistic GPA and ACT/SAT goals.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal.

- Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with students, parents, school and system employee and the general public.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with employees, students, community groups and others required.
- Must have strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills.
Education, Training, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate
SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:
1. 190 day work year.
2. Salary based on certification and experience; placement on the Georgia Annual Salary Schedule and position supplement(s).
